Deacons: Leading Through Service

In the Presbyterian Church (USA), “Deacons embody acts of care, compassion, and service.”

Deacons play an important role in the life of our church. Each deacon is assigned members to keep in touch with during the year (their 'parish'). A list on the front bulletin board makes it easy to see who your Deacon is.

In addition to caring for the needs of their parish, Deacons are responsible for making sure we have coffee and treats each Sunday, planning and sponsoring an event at Avalon Manor, as well as overseeing our church picnic and sponsoring social outings and gatherings. Deacons keep the congregation informed with notices in the bulletin and Deacons' Beacon.

They assist and provide for receptions at funerals, contribute to the Christmas Clearing Council Family, send out cards to our graduates and those in college and the military, as well as Christmas caring cards to all who may be struggling with grief or declining health. For those experiencing hardship or serious illness, Deacons provide meals as well as rides for those with transportation issues, plus Communion and home visits.

Deacons help with scripture and Prayers of the People in worship, and the chairperson of Deacons serves as Pastor Liaison.

Have a question? Need help? Have a concern? Please reach out to your deacon. All are here to be the hands and feet of Christ in this place.
